Working with Always Ready Rocketry, we have found a way to make 'Flexible' Phenolic tubes for use as air frames. These offer the strength and reduced weight of Phenolic, but still have some 'flex' to them so they don't crack during lift-off and landing.
The first test flight was successful.... then the odds were upped with the need to go supersonic and see if the design would hold up to the forces of high power take-off
With 314 Lbs of thrust, pushing 15G's at take off, the rocket passes Mach 1 @ a little more than 2 seconds into the flight. The max speed achieved was 870 Mph at T+2.5 seconds, with an apogee of 7,442 feet. The rocket body held up to the stresses of supersonic flight and passes with flying colors!! Of course, it's time to try agian, faster and higher.
Pictures to follow...
